find nouns that contain at least three letters and are singular but when you add one 's' to the end it becomes plural and when you add another 's', the noun becomes singular again.

example: prince, princes, princess

How many can you find?

WOW!  Denis, this thing isn't as easy as it looks.
Hey! Darcy can you get this thing rolling-on?!
Like I said earlier, I had my pad out and drew
a complete blank!  I'll keep trying. Abishag

Good one Abishag!

I believe care, cares and caress is a solution

They can be considered nouns according to Meriam Webster

Note that there are not too many solutions to this problem. But there are more than three if I recall correctly.

heirs
heiress

Close, but no cigar. . .

cacti  cactus  cactusses: not valid: can only add an s but not substitute the "i" for a "u".

The rule is simple. Make a word, add only s but don't change anything else, then add another s without changing anything else.

for the same reasons; hosts, hosts, hostess  is not valid.

eagle, eagles, eagless is good! Well done Scott  (even though you got some help).

Hollis got close there but not a valid move from the second to the third word.

Lets see if any more can come out. I think there are at least 5 or 6.. and even more when you obtain the singular female noun by adding the second s to a plural masculin noun ending in s as Scott did.

pope    popes    popess   (Jeeves says this is a female pope)

So............???????   Man! Denis, you really know how to drive a Word Puzzle person to their wits-end! Ha! Ha!

Not quite a fair clue. You can use the search function to find your words in the threads. We have to go through them "word for word".

I couldn't find your clue. Had fun playing with  the words while looking, though - such as :

Place, places . . . placess (where women hang out)
Manufacture, manufactures . . . manufacturess (She who makes things)
Jaw, Jaws . . . Jawess ( Movie about a fearsome female shark)

Hi Abishag, (((( Smiles )))

 Go get' em tigers!

I'll just be the cheerleader on the side playing field..
With go get' em tigger pom pom's .. as well..
As sitting this one out as usual...
People can't be good at everything and quiz's and
puzzel's I'm not... Oh well...

But I like Jaw, Jaw , Jawess.. Female sharks..
Oh.. Thoses female's sure can bite as well...
Like female spiders can and do...
They must be hunters protecting their very young..
I have ant's now and they must be the female kind for sure..
The little buggers bit me while cleaning the sink out..
I looked at the dish's in the sink and there must of been..
an invasion last night..

You know there are 1 million ant's for ever person in the world..
I believe it.. They were in my sink...
And also A one- day weather forcast requires about..
10 billion mathematical calculations..

Thats when I bring out the calculater I should be retired..
But I don't think that will ever happen...
Not in my lifetime...
So as it baffles the mind...
I keep it simple... Like...
I just pick up the newspaper and their it is..
The weather report...
And where do I get theses interesting facts from...
Snapple.. Probably contains too much sugar...
I should give it totally up..
But it's so interesting reading the Real Fact Caps..
Now I know the average human eats eight spiders in
his/her lifetime while sleeping...

Oh.. No..
I do see spiders in the house from time to time..
I didn't need to know that fact..
Now there goes my sleep.. (((( Smiles )))
I should really give up snapple..
But it tastes so good..
I'm working on it.....
You guys enjoy....
Word Fun.....

Oh Plus, (((( Smiles ))))

Just in case anyone say's retired ???
How old is that gal anyway...
Well I'm just teasing... not old enough to be retired yet..
Yet sometimes I feel like it..
Being a baby boomer with young kids..
I'm in my 40's..
I remember Dan wrote on the hyperacusis information..
Supplemental somewhere...
That alot of people with hyperacusis..
Tend to be in  their 40's and 50's..
Baby boomers...
Well.. Thats me....
Which means I only have so much brain reserve left everyday..
The kids get the rest of it...
But my one child which is no longer allowed to use my computer...
or the internet.. I put a stop to that.. It didn't work out...
She only plays her computer games on a limited one now..
Still enjoys reading the word games..
from time to time..
I'll let her do that.....
From time to time....
Enjoy......  (((( Smiles ))))

I found OneLook dictionary helpful - http://www.onelook.com. Check out the "wildcard pattern" function. If you type in ??ss, you get all 4 letter word ending in -ss. ???ss gives you all 5 letter words , etc. I've been going through them trying to find which fit Denis' puzzle,

What's the scoop?????   I must bow out!  I always tell my husband, once we play a Word Puzzle and it begins NOT BEING FUN to go to something else.  Well, here I go! Good luck to everyone!   Sorry Denis.  You're a real Pro!

Oh, Lynn, I'm sorry I have to confess I was peeking at your "For Women Only" thread. But anyway, in one of the posts was the word "Ma".

Ma, Mas, Mass.

Abishag, please don't go. It won't be as fun without you. If I was a cardinal, I'd vote for you as the next popess.

WOW!  Something is really going crazy on the Message Board, now I'm getting your message as a Private Msg. also.  Lynn, the only thing that came into my computer from Scott was the same exact thing he typed above, at 4:35 P.M.  MINUS the last sentence addressed to Abishag.
Nothing to fret about........all's cool.  Ha! Ha!
We really do have a lot of funny, nice, considerate people on the message board.  Thanks, Lynn, for keeping in touch.
You are the BEST !  I'll have to take a break from Denis' Word Trivia, it's just beyond this gal.  I spent almost all morning in my dictionary, plus several ISP. Oh brother.  When it's no fun anymore, go do something else.  That's what I must do.  I'll let others get the rest of the answers.  It's not in my Word Puzzle area.  It's kind of 'TRIVIA' stuff.......
I'll just stand by, like you and see what turns up.  I should have done that yesterday after the first word, CARE.  Ha! Ha!
I'll check 'ya later, Lynn Girl.  Abishag <><

Scott,

re: ma, mas, mass: Sorry.. not valid, the puzzle states the first word has to have three or more letters.

Abishag: pope, popes,  popess is accetpable according to Merriam Webtser. Good one! Sorry I missed your post earlier on.

So far we have:

care, cares, caress (Abishag)
pope, popes, popess (Abishag)
bra, bras, brass (Scott)
prince, princes, princess (Denis)
eagle, eagles, eagless (Scott)

I know of two more still out there...maybe more

I heard a lost kid in a store yell, "Maaa!". thats four letters. Does that count?

Hyperacusi - someone with hearing sensitivity
Hyperacusis - hearing sensitivity
Hypracusiss - more than one hearing sensitivity, Or, sensitivity to the sound "S".

I see. They are all words where adding the second -s creates the feminine form of the noun. And the singular version ends in a vowel, otherwise you get something like waiter, waiters, waitress, where you need to change the spelling of the feninine form.
I was hoping for more words like bra, bras, brass where the the third word is a different word entirely.

You got my brain thinking on this one for sure.
