Actually, I found a tee shirt at Walmart that had a white smiley face with big white eyes on a black backround and a two by three inch faux silver piece of duct tape for a mouth... that said just that for a caption!!!
Is that not priceless? I found it in a display of tee-shirts in some cubicles the mens section.

I am starting this thread as sort of comic relief to add even more levity to an already slightly deranged group of charcters such of myself who hear way more than they should or want to.
Keep in mind, that I love to smile and mean no offense to anyone.

Carry On!

:snicker" I knew YOU'D come through Rob!

Now... let's get real inventive and throw in occasional "new and improved" products for the hearing oversaturated!

Now..where on the oven would one place the duct tape to shut up that obnoxious micro-wave beeping?

I'm thinking of a silent oven that flashes a different color when the food is "done"

ideas?

next product , joke , comment?

Socialization Tip:

If you have been attempting to compel the guy next door to join the Neighborhood Watch Group...it is perhaps NOT in your best interest to suggest that he use his leaf blower as a suppository.

Hehe...and now for a super-simple holiday recipe using our friend... Mr. Corn!

Scalloped Corn

1 can cream style corn
1 can whole kernal corn ( do not drain)
3 slightly beaten eggs
12 saltine ( or unsaltine) crackers crushed
2 Tablespoons butter

Mix and place in casserole and bake about 1 1/2 hours at 350

Voila! easy, tasty...
To be used as an adjunct to the Green Bean and Onion thingee

Ok...so I said this thread was supposed to be funny...and this is sort of funny...and yet NOT.For the past FOUR FREAKING NIGHTS at random times during the wee hours of the AM a car horn in the parking area of my apartment complex has sounded. Well..after waking me up from a sound sleep of course, it takes a longggg time to go BACK to sleep if ever.
This morning during the daylight hours, the culprit horn went off again and I was able to identify the offending car.It is highly probable faulty wiring is the culprit. I fully intend to discuss this with the assistant landlord as I do NOT intend to continue to be sleep deprived.
The problem now is THIS.My tonal memory is STILL HEARING the horn honking although it ceased hours ago. (Dang Absolute Pitch). It's in B flat...(checked it out on the keyboard) which wouldn't be so irritating if it were in an instrument other that a *&$%# car horn....ya know?
Heh..anyways..thought I'd share that tidbit.Guess I'll play my own version of musical mortal combat by playing something in a key and volume I can tolerate to drown out the car horn.
Shoot oh dear

Hi Debra , (((( Smiles )))

Duct tape is one of the best things that has ever been invented..

You can repair alot of things with duct tape...

Now car alarms... That can that go off continuely if the wind blows

just right day or night.. Is not...

Who ever invented that kind of alarm..

Needs to be duct taped.....

Maybe to fix all the problems around the world.. we can just

use a big roll of expando duct tape..

Why not.. It's a good product..

It may work .. (((( Smiles )))

Any one else in the world have... ????

any better ideas then the inventor of duct tape..

So far.. I haven't seen one yet..

It works for everything.. Multi - uses....

You can't beat that kind of a produce...

It works for me... (((( Smiles )))

Everything else is details!(Except for the POSITIVE energy that is
Ya think perhaps the deflective laser shield may be in part composed of Duct Tape?
You have lifted my spirits... and oh by the way girlfrien'... thanks for praying for me... the car horn sound is for now gone

Funny thing about duct tape...This can also be filed under idiosyncrasies of the English language.

I needed to seal a leak on my furnace duct. Naturally I went for the duct tape. But my furnace repair technician upon his next inspection mentioned you can use duct tape on just about anything except ducts!! (furnace ducts that is). The heat from the ducts degrades the adhesive properties of the duct tape over time. He replaced it with a special adhesive flexible metallic strip that is not affected by the heat. So duct tape hold the universe together but they are nonetheless counterindicated for ducts. Go figure.

Hi Dp, (((( Smiles ))))

I know the silvery tape your talking about.. I taped my ducts once..

They should have named that tape duct tape..

It actually looked pretty nice in the garage..

It's very shiny tape and looks better on the ducts then duct

tape would.. which has no shine to it at all..

Except I think it had red or blue lettering all over it..

As I remember it was not just plain letterless silver..

But it was very reflective..

Kind of like looking in a looking glass....

You can see your reflection....

Hi Darcy, ((( Smiles )))

I like those pictures.. Thats so cute !

But duct not being truely duct is a good point...

Maybe what we should do .. is... stick both tapes together..

And make it truely duct again..

Lasers love shiny objects..

They like shiny CD's and DVD's and of course you have heard

of the laser disk..

It makes a rainbow effect which is so pretty when the sun hits it...

I love looking at rainbows don't you ?

Maybe we can color the world in laser rainbows....

Then people would stop and smell the roses again..

Give them something to think about...

So we can all go outside and play and enjoy all thoses beautifull colors

in the sky..

Works for me... ((((( Smiles ))))

Lynn,

I see you are continuing to come up with ideas for bringing about world peace through laser technology.  (Deb, I hope you're okay with the laser theme now having spread into your thread.)

Lynn wrote:

Like I said in "The world's first super laser" thread," "I don't know a thing about lasers."  I Googled "laser disk" after reading your posting to see what you were talking about.

Maybe we can color the world in laser rainbows....

Sounds wonderful.  Please share this idea with the inventor from The Most Isolated City in the World when/if he ever shows up.

As for the images of duck tape,  I'm very fond of that duck, and have many more images of him--minus the tape, and sometimes with his friends.

Below is an image befitting today. It's entitled "Friday's after five" (and if you're not sure what the ducks are riding, look more closely).

Psycedelically colored records..

They make great flying object's tossing them in the backyard for fun..

They fly mighty pretty in the air..

Like all thoses CD roms they send in the mail they are great for tossing too..

Very colorfull when they fly in the sun...

Like digital audio..

But laser records are digital audio..

All the colors of the rainbow are there.. while it spins around..

Mightly pretty to watch it just spin around..

Hi Debra, ((( Smiles )))

Guess what I have... I have some blankets with smiley faces all over it..

Theses blankets though are very quiet at night..

If any of them start's makeing any noise at all at night.. I will duct tape all thoses smiley faces as well too.. Did you buy the tee-shirt ???

The T-Shirt with the smilely face..

Long time ago I mentioned it would be great if the network carried things one could purchase like hyperacusis network T-Shirts.. Though...

Non profit now.. Though the network never made a spare dime off of anything of the help we all have recieved here anyway..

But it sure would let people know about hyperacusis..

But duct tape may come on alittle bit to strong for network T-Shirts..

I like the finger one over the mouth.. It would be nice to have some of thoses with the hyperacusis network logo...  And a big smileing face with the Shhh sign...

Maybe with a big pink noise disc on the other side...

Pink rainbows...

Pink rainbows are pretty too....  (((( Smiles ))))

Hi Debra, ((( Smiles )))

I second that.... I'm so glad the good graces of this network started an off

topic site for us.. I've truely enjoyed it and though I am doing so much better now..

I like to share my many blessings and others love to share their many blessing here as well...

Because we all know how it feels theses ear problems that we have or do or had had.... shareing.....

I hope you have enjoyed my threads as I much as I have enjoyed reading yours...

On the weekends as my daughter will be home soon I won't be on as much to share and spread the joy.....

And also the 24 thread rule so I pretty much bumped up on the other board the threads I want to keep active..

As I do most of posting's mostly in thoses threads instead of starting lots of new ones on the other board..

I leave that mostly to others because of the 24 rule.. Thats why my threads can get so long.. But at least I know where they are where to look for them...

But thats why it's so great to have this extra board here.. It was a great idea indeed..

A brilliant concept with perfect timeing.. It has worked out so well for us all.

This board has meant so much to me over the years...

I've been through so much here...

Learned so much here..

Meet so many wonderfull people here..

I feel like at home here..

And I was so shy when I first joined the old board back then...

I had hardly any threads of my own back then.. But I'm not shy anymore.... I learn how to work the web..   (((((( Smiles ))))

The only reason I got the internet in the first place..

Was to get here... It was worth it. Because you guys are all so great..

It's a great place to be with so many creative board friends to pal around with...  And the possibiltys of getting better are so great..

H can improve.. So can tinnitus.. It's alot of work though..

I know....

Yes, I've seen one of those, but I've not tossed one of those.

Yes...would like to know too about the 24 thread rule also!
I am feeling very sad today :sorry:...as I DO NOT like to tattle.. but the infamous car horn has gone off again the past two days. This morning at 05:33 for six minutes.
So... I did go and complain to the assistant landlord and he assured me it would be "taken care of". I explained the difficulty with hearing the horn all too well.I am amazed more people haven't said something before now.In any event, I am hoping to have this resolved soon, as I have a great deal of difficulty going back to sleep when this happens.

Hi Darcy Hi Debra, ((( Smiles )))

O.K.......

The 24 thread rule.. I don't know about the off topic site...

But on the main board.. Being a new board when it started up late April 2005.

Nobody new that when the threads hit 24 as soon as it started on 25 it naturally deletes itself off the board to be gone...

We didn't figure out this was happening for awhile untill we were looking for Astrids hello thread and we wondered why it was no longer back there on the board..

Dp found it in  a copy on the web for us.. I went back and looked and noticed all the posts from early on that wasen't bumped up to the top on the board...... but left at the end of the board were missing.

They were totally gone.. Thats when we all found out about the 24 thread rule that that was based on the setup of this site..

So now about all posts when it gets close to 24 goes into archive . Or they are actually put there in archive by the people who run this board....

Knowing this.. That is why I use certain threads I have allready posted on the main board over and over and rarely start new ones not like before..

But it works out O.K. that way for me..  It free's up more room for new comers on the main board.. So thats why my threads are so long..

But it works out O.K. for me just doing it like that...

Hi Lynn

Thanks for what your wrote about the 24 message rule, however, I'm confused about how it works.

Right now when I look at the main board, I see that messages go back as far as September 2005.  Are you saying that some of the message between now and September 2005 are missing from the board?

And even if that is the case, I still don't understand how the 24 message rule works, as there are still way more than 24 message sitting on the main board that haven't been bumped up and yet haven't disappeared.

Hi Darcy, (((( Smiles )))

This new message board started in late April.. Close to May 2005..

The posts from April 05 to September 05 are gone....

Except threads that were actively used that were bumped from way back..

back to the top of the board....

Bumped all the older ones up..

The more posts over the number 24 you see at the bottom of the board in number....of total pages of " threads "  on the board..

Bumped all the older ones off the board...

Gone....

We didn't know that was happening at the time..

I saved some of them in copying off the web... but not all..

It was alot of posts... and you had to find them as they were gone off the board.. A person can no longer find them on the web anymore..

At least I can't find thoses ones anymore...

They were there... But not anymore like that .... of pretty recent...

Even my  Hyperacusis is not God's will thread which I was able to find on the web not that long ago is no longer findable.. Not a big deal anyway but...

But it's " number " 24 in total threads.. Not messages..

When we discovered the lose.. what was left was put in archive.. And when it hits 24 it will need to be put in archive again... (((( Smiles ))))

Lynn,

Ooops!  In my last posting when I wrote "the 24 message rule," but I meant "the 24 thread rule."  Still, I'm confused, and could use some further clarification.

This part of what you wrote, I think I understand:
This new message board started in late April.. Close to May 2005..
The posts from April 05 to September 05 are gone....
Except threads that were actively used that were bumped from way back..
back to the top of the board....

This part of what you wrote, I'm not certain about:
The more posts over the number 24 you see at the bottom of the board in number....of total pages of " threads " on the board..  Bumped all the older ones off the board...

I think what you're saying is:  When a thread gets to the bottom of the 24th page, it gets bumped off the board by newer threads.

Is that what you mean?

If my understanding is correct, then it would seem more fitting to call it the "the thread at the bottom of the 24th page rule."

You wrote:
When we discovered the lose.. what was left was put in archive.. And when it hits 24 it will need to be put in archive again...

This leads me to think that once the problem was discovered, it was remedied,  and now when a thread gets to the bottom of the 24th page it's archived.

If that's the case, then I don't understand why it's necessary to bump up threads in order to save them if in fact they're being archived somewhere...

Yes.. Yes... Your correct.. the proper wording woud be 24 pages of threads...

The thread at the bottom of the 24th page rule...

Hi Darcy, ((( Smiles )))

Yes.. That right.. Once the problem was discovered it was put in archive..

Everything that was still on the board... not what we lost...

When it hits 24.. It needs to go in archive as well....

I don't think it just goes there by itself.. I don't think it's set up that way..

It has to be archived by the network..

If.. You are still working an a thread and you do not want it archived..

You can't post in archive as it's locked and can not get it out of archive..

Then keep it in up through page 6....

Last time they archived everything was after page 6...

As I don't start new threads as much as I use too...

I have certain threads I use for information or things I find on the web..

So I don't have to open a new thread every time.. I just use thoses mostly.. Last time they archived I think they did it when it hit page 16...

So not sure exactly when they will do it this time .. ((( Smiles )))

Update Oh. Happy,happy,joy,joy!
The apartment complex has been car horn free for the past several days!Sigh
Also..to answer an earlier question you asked Lynn, I DID indeed buy the "Silence is golden ...duct tape is silver" tee shirt! But when I wore it to Open Mic one week, my friend D. the blues-harp man fell in like with it.I ended up giving it to him I did go back to Walmart to try to find another and they were out!Probably wouldn't be that difficult to make one though.

Hugs

Hi Debra, ((( Smiles )))

Horn Free !!! We will sing it to the tune of Born Free......

For You !

So glad the dreaded noise stopped..

Thoses horn car alarms are everywere it seems..

I hate when one of thoses is parked in a shopping mall parking lot..

People just walk by them and the air sets it off..

Though I haven't run into one lately maybe because people are starting

to complain they are so noisy and nobody it seems shuts them off..

But I'm glad you did get your shirt and that someone else fell in love with it

and wanted it.. Maybe there is a hint of hope for people who hate noise in this world...

It still would be nice to have a hyperacusis T shirt though..

I'd wear it.. If it was cute enough !

But watch what you type. A Sheckey or two might try to get in on the action. There's been more than one tee shirt hawked at a bar you know.

If the hyperacusis network made one.. I'd probably wear it...

It all depends though.. What was on it...

The happy smiley face with a shhh finger would be nice...

Or even the round pink color pink noise CD on it..

Even if it had the network address on it too...

It depends on what it looks like first....

Possible hyperacusis slogan:  "No noise is good noise."

I have duck tape.  I went with David to the salt marsh where they always stand around quacking.  I love them.  I took the videocam, but somehow my ducks didn't come out as cute as Darcy's ducks.

Born free/horn free.  Someone write a parody.

Ah, well I suspect your ducks aren't as cute as my ducks because you have ducks on tape, versus duck tape.

I am however pleased to know you are a duck lover.  I am particularly fond of the runner duck.  When I look at one, I'm convinced I've found my soul mate.

Heh! Haven't been posting lately due to alot of vertigo diagnosed through testing as BPPV or Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo.I've had this issue for decades. Seems to be getting worse. It's evidently a common cause of "dizziness (about 20%)alot of elderly people get it. I first noticed it as a teen. Had several head injuries ( IE falling off trike hitting head on cement.. hitting head at pool on cement..uh.. cement and I aren't friends HA HA!)
Anyway is cause by displaced crystals of calcium carbonate also known as otoconia that come from a structure known as the utricle in the inner ear.Are usually reabsorbed or dissolved naturally.. but sometimes not as in my situation. Will be going in for some "maneuvers" to displace the ornery critters ro try to get some balance back in my life (literally).
Am looking forward to not having the spins! No relationship to the H that I am presently aware of ... but ear related so that's why I mentioned here! Always HAVE been accused of having "rocks in" my head. "They" WERE RIGHT!

Deb,

If what you wrote is true, then I wish you the very best with the "maneuvers" and hope they get rid of "the spins."

On the other hand if this is an alibi to hide your disguise in the cow thread, well congarts!  It's a good one, and I still wish
you the very best.

Hugs
