Hello everyone, My name is Ami and I have suffered HA for the past 2 years now. I do not know what to do, where to go for help. I have to live in complete silence. A lot of noises affect my hearing and I can’t bear it any more. I am getting more and more depressed as time goes on.
Can anyone tell me how they cope, what work you do, what kind of work can be done. What have you tried and any Dr’s you can recommend. I live in London.
Thank you in advance for any help and support anyone can provide.

Hi Ami,

Human auditory system is self adapting mechanism that needs sound to regulate itself. The more you stay in silence the more sensitive you are. You need to start listening to low level pink noise or nature sounds 24/7. Try first at barely audible levels for few minutes, then hour then full day and then start slowly increase volume. You should also avoid loud sounds as you heal. I think the best thing is to look for TRT therapy in your area, it really works almost for everyone.

I totally agree with Artman. The more you avoid outside/normal noise, the less improvement you'll get. What worked for me was TRT(Tinnitus Retraining Therapy) or listening to pink noise. Same method and very effective. I still have hyperacusis and tinnitus but my tolerance to adapt within the normal range has improved immensely. I would say that I'm 85-90% recovered. I believe there is no cure but if there is, may God help us all!
