I have ear pain that lasts all day, multiple days after medium sounds. I am starting with the pink noise wave file. Should I wear earplugs for sounds that cause pain like driving, listening to kids playing loudly, etc. or just grit my teeth and accept the ear pain?

I wear ear protection around these situations. I too have tried to  grit and accept but it causes anxiety When I put my ear muffs on, my body becomes relaxed.

Todd, it's good to slowly acclimate to any sound that gives you aversion. I would always start driving without covering myself up until the pain and pressure became unbearable. I would then, try again everytime to acclimate. It was bad for me just to listen to my heater or air conditioning fan in my vehicle. Just try to assure yourself that these sounds will not destroy your hearing. On the other hand, covering all of the time will only make you dependant on hiding from sound. You won't make much improvement in that case. The constant use of sound, whether through use of TRT..Sound generators or recorded white/pink noise ,is beneficial to hyperacusis. Whenever loud situations arise.opt for headphones with gentle music or sound,as opposed to no sound at all. In the case of hyperacusis, you need to retrain the brain to accept sound not continue to fear it.

Hello,  Do any of you on this thread have amplified hearing, chronic or "kindling T as well?

I don't get much ear pain, but have the above symptoms.  I do however wear hearing protection in certain situations.  I believe it would help the ear pain too.

Best to all....

I purchased the BOSE 35 decibel noise cancelling headphones mainly for the car rides they helped significantly and they also are fantastic when I go grocery shopping or M around kids allowed situations of any kind Costco and I'm actually able to socialize once again I look kind of weird but it does allow me to go interact with multiple people and small spaces you may want to look into them they're quite pricey at $400 a pop but they do work wonders they take a little bit of getting adjusted to but at first I was unable to get in the car for long periods but twenty minutes was my Max and not on the freeway at all and with these I'm able to go up to an hour I haven't tried any further so hopefully they do work for long distance travel as well

Thehottati...I'm curious. You say the base headset works for you.Are you sensitive to high or low frequencies? Or both?

The main problem I have with muffs or ear plugs are, I hear my T a lot louder, and I do  have multiple sounds, which fluctuate.   Also, they do not help much with truck and motorcycle motors, diesel trucks as well.

Lengthy care rides are pretty much out, but my husband and I are going to try to take a two hour trip and sleepover somewhere quiet. There are some nice cabins not too far from the lake. We take the back roads. I need to push myself out more regardless, and  if I need to wear them, so be it.

Best to all

That's the kind of spirit I like to hear!

What I need to know is how to deal with all the anger that slowly builds up from listening to all the noises. Something that no one really understands but us.  Not a damn thing works to solve the problems.
