I was wondering and I hope I am not opening a can of worms
here but in the very most extreme cases as in my son who has multiple issues
going on has anyone ever had a dr. help them not to hear if you know what I
mean. I think about it all the time! His noise sensitivity seems to be the
biggest hurdle for him and is pretty much controlled his life. I just wonder
"what if"

Susan, I know you've tried AIT: have you tried the Tomatis method?

I would suggest reading the website of Sound Therapy International.
I bought their tapes for hyperacusis/tinnitus & find the classical music that is palyed to be phenomenally soothing.
STI has programs which thehy claim also help balance the brain etc.
Just worth looking at IMO.

Again I would also look into some possibilities of helping the whole nervous system be calmer such as may be facilitated with feldenkrais etc.; the links I provided.

& I know Lynn has other suggestions as her kids have autism.

How about the possibility of natural GABA?
While also working some of these other ideas?

Without treating the hypersensitivity of the nervous system, measures such as creating deafness might be jumping from one fire to another.

People with tinnitus apparently sometimes (often?) still have tinnitus after deafness.

There may be ways to actually address some of the acute sensitivities.

I can hear how distressed you are can imagine how desperate you might feel.
There may be more hope than it might seem.
Wishing you & your son the best,

Debbie

Hi Debbie, ((( Smiles )))

Just read this thread..
Ya.. Sound therapies can be helpful as I believe it helped my kids as they had improvement with their hypo hyper hearing..
In the long term..
And the supplements they have been on for years I think has been helpful too.
But there is one more thing that has also helped theses children and it's de-toxing and chelation therapy and speaking on that note..
I was reading this interesting article..
Noise & health..

Effects of occupational exposure to mercury or chlorinated hydrocarbons on the auditory pathway..
It's a study of..
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of industrial exposure to mercury and chlorinated hydrocarbons (CH) on the auditory pathway..
And about..
ABR and other evoked potentials..
And ..
possible sub-clinical central nervous system (CNS) alterations in workers with long term exposure to low levels of mercury or CH.

And they were talking about The statistically significant relationship between exposure to mercury and CH and the ABR I-III IPL prolongation may suggest a neurological effect at the level of the 8th nerve and the cochlear nuclear complex.

And do a search on tinnitus & hyperacusis and the 8th nerve and the cochlear nuclear complex.
And even on the tympanic membrane..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cochlear_nerve membrane

Not just CNS imparment but they were talking about the brainstem and..
Thus, it seems that even those levels of neurotoxic agents considered being safe and inert to worker's health might cause subclinical neurologic dysfunction in long-term exposures.

http://www.noiseandhealth.org/article.asp?issn=1463-1741;year=2002;volume=4;issue=16;spage=71;epage=77 ;aulast=Shlomo

And I have read that with mercury in the system it can cause further neurological impairment over time and a person needs to get it out of their system like with lead ect..
Plus there is an article

  1. Mercury Damages the Auditory System
  2. Oyanagi K, Ohama E, & Ikuta F. (1989). The auditory system in methyl mercurial intoxication: a neuropathological investigation on 14 autopsy cases in Niigata, Japan. Acta Neuropathologica (Berlin), 77, 561-568.

But on that site on noise and health it shows other research on that as well..

Anything that damages the auditory system is something that is not good to have put into your body in any form..
Any how any way..
And GBS can cause hyperacusis as well..
It's interesting the reading on that too..
What can cause GBS..
Sometimes just thinking out of the box on what may have helped other kids with their sound issue problems.
It's expecially hard when it's children that are effected with auditory problems & sound sensitivites..
It happens alot more then people think it does.
Lots of kids out their with auditory neurological sound issues..
But also have read of improvements..
Lots of reading things out there though to go through.. (((( Smiles )))

And Plus: just because it's a good thing to know in all risks..
Of GBS and in causeing and exhaberating neurological conditions..
As in all inserts when it comes to medications or anything you put into your body where there is any possible side effects and any known or unknown risks..
Always read the insert expecially if they provide it for you or look it up if possible ..

It's just a good thing to know..

http://www.fluscam.com/Vaccine_Package_Inserts_files/Novartis_A-H1N1_2009_Monvalent_VaccinePackageInsert_BasedOn19 80Approvalfor%20Fluvirin_UCM182242.pdf
You'll need to google it can't fit the link all the way in it's still there..

And even reading that »H1N1 Swine Flu Vaccine Insert Admits It Causes Guillain-Barre Syndrome, Vasculitis, Paralysis, Anaphylactic Shock And Death..
Neurological disorders nervous system disorders..

Thats one thing I will not do.. been there done that never again.
Not happy about it too..
