Today, after months of no exercise due to my h/t,I decided to start up again. I ran 2 miles on the treadmill, lifted weights and did some crunches. I drank 2 cups of coffee afterward. I went outside to wax my car. As I waxed the car I heard a bluejay fly overhead. As it flew,it let out an ear piercing cry. It was so loud and excruciating! I cant believe that all of my progress is lost today! I didnt have a problem like this for weeks! Burning ears and loud tinnitus. I ran to get my sound gens on and got some immediate comfort from the burning. I guess I will wear them more often!

No surprise there. But, don't say you're progress is lost! That is absolutely not true!!! Your ears are just more reactive because of the big change in activity level. Happens to me all the time. Yeah, probably a good idea to keep up with the generators, till you feel you're ears are 100% completely back to normal.

Yeah, so, some of your symptoms temporarily came back, but not good dwell on it. I'd suggest taking it more slowly in getting back to being active.

Keep your chin up!

Thanks Paul, I try to help and am happy to do so. I just hate to see people make the same mistakes I made, and I've made just about all of them. It's too bad most ENTs don't educate themselves on this health problem so they can get people the help they need. But that's the way it is.

Hi Paul,

People and lawn crews in my area have been working on cleaning up leaves, with blowers and mulching mowers (both loud)  and perhaps trimming branches with chain saws, etc. Don't know what is going on but the past few days my ears have hurt and been more sensitive than normal. And just prior to this I was amazed and pleased at some of what I was able to tolerate without a whole lot of difficulty - and/or lasting effects -
I thought it may have just been neighbors working on something over the weekend, but it did not quit when the weekend ended, though  it is a very busy time of year, for loud things outdoors -
And though I wish my ears felt better, I know it's temporary, and when the additional sound - whatever it is quits, I'll be ok again. And I just keep working on building my tolerances, though I have turned my stereo down a little from where it had been, (though the volume was not loud to begin with, and was just at a very comfortable level) and it has been a challenge not to decrease that bass setting again, but for now I am choosing some different selections for a bit instead. Put on something this evening that had been soothing to my hearing/ears in the past  (when my hearing was extra sensitive from being exposed to too much in the way of sound) and was pleased that it still was, soothing. I had almost forgotten how well it seemed to calm my ears back down at times, and was surprised how well it worked this evening.

The part above had been written a couple days ago, and my hearing/ears remained very sensitive finally settling down a bit yesterday in the late afternoon, I think some of what has been going on outdoors, (though I have no idea exactly what) that was too difficult for my hearing   has quit - but not all of it yet.  So I'm being a bit cautious, my hearing/ears feel a quite bit better today, but not quite back to where I was, before last weekend - I'll get there though.
And though I'm not sure what may have caused your increase in sensitivity, thankfully I don't have a problem with coffee.
(And one of these days I hope to be able to grind my own again, as that is something I have not done for a Long time,
ever since i decided to use hearing protection only when Absolutely necessary, for me to do so.)
Hope you are back to where you had been, as far as how things sound to you at this point.

It is a back and forth path, at least that is what I have found, but I have also found overall as I keep working on things, it keeps getting better. And what I am able to tolerate in the way of sound keeps improving -
And during times that are difficult for me soundwise, (like i have had over the past several days) it helps me to remember that.

Take care and keep getting better
