Hi again, Apart from the pulsating Tinnitus and Hyperacusis I also have a fluctuating (dreadful) roaring noise in my ears and my hearing deteriorates, every  sound emphasises the roaring. This happens every few days. Does anyone know what this could be.....it is the most distressing of all all???
I haven't noticed this symptom on this board!

This might due to neck, ears, or/and mastication muscles spasm. I have similar symptoms with variety of eee.. eee.. tinnitus noises and sound sensitivity to door closing or variety of loud noises. I think the cause might due to teeth clenching from root canaled tooth pain that infection in my maxillary sinus that cannot be detected by x-ray but last year CT cough it last year. Thess teeth pain and clenching ends up overloaded trigeminal nerve which control those muscles and has connection to auditory nerve.

Current, I have been seeing an neurologist and oral maxillofacial (TMJ) doctors. I have been eating only soft food and try to have my teeth apart as must as possible, get enough rest and try to reduce stress by control breathing for almost a year now. After more than a year of suffering, I am better little by little, also a lot of set back and forward. I am still suffer.

The symptoms might be similar, but might not come from the same cause. I hope you find yours and getting better

I have hyperacusis and tinnitus which developed May of 2007. Around December of that year I started hearing a roaring or rumbling noise as if from a very low frequency motor. After much frustration trying to figure out the source of the sound I've found that it is actually Tonic Tensor Tympani Syndrom and the sound is actually the spasming of the startle reflex muscle.

The volume of this sound varies and seems to be worse when I'm more tense or after a lot of noise exposure. It also seems to be activated sometimes by exposure to a sound in the environment which has a similar frequency to the TTTS frequency. My car, for example, sets this off. I also find that when I'm away from home it sometimes backs off or even goes away all together. I live right on the ocean, a bay actually, that has the highest tides in the world. As the tide comes in and hits the bank just below our house I feel (and hear) the low frequency and it is very much like the TTTS. I'm  worried that this may be the reason that I have the TTTS rumble (as I call it) about 99% of the time at home and only about 20% of the time when I'm away from home.

Have a look at the info on TTTS here on this site and see if it could explain what you are experiencing.

Thank you Panda and Krista, Since my posting I have been diagnosed with Endolymphatic Hydrops. Its a fluctuating pressure on my ear and when the episodes attack the inner roaring noise and the inability to tolerate ANY outside sound is unbearable. I continue to research to help myself in any way I can. It has been a long road and the Hyperacusis has improved somewhat but the Tinnitus has worsened and now EH has struck. The health professionals don't seem to understand, all Ive been offered is Valium..as desperate as I am -I refused. I guess we continue to look for a cure. I wish you both well . God Bless.
